The PSFC (for Pioneer Sound Field Control) System [AMY +98] is installed in the Multimedia Center at our university. It has a DSP-driven hemispherical 14-loudspeaker array, with a diameter of approximately 10 meters. It can control two sound spatialization channels. Rather than binaural cues to directionalize a sound source, such a loudspeaker system doesn't constrain listeners with the orientation and location or require head-tracking. However, best results are obtained near the center of the space [Gar92].
